DIY Moving Made Easy

There aren't many days in a person's life when they can feel both excited and terrified by the tasks they are facing. DIY moving is getting more amd more popular these days. With the rising costs of moving companies, fuel and packaging people more often take the risk to just pack, move and unpack on their own. DIY moving is not the easiest of tasks, but it has its benefits if done the right way. Make sure you start planning the move well ahead of time. This includes writing a list of all your items - what needs to be packed, what you are going to throw or give away, how much packing material you need and how many people have to help. Educate yourself in terms of proper packing of furniture, wrapping dishes and electric appliances, loading a moving truck and unpacking methods. Most people think DIY moving means money, stress, frustration and no sleep. With a proper organization this doesn't have to be the pattern for you as well. Start early and clean all the clutter at your place - before you know it you will have to move out and leave the place in a good condition. Time is always an issue so distribute tasks between the members of your family and start packing and throwing away. When throwing away the clutter forget about being sentimental - you are moving to a new place which costs money. Would you like to spend additional trips and money carrying old unnecessary items. Think about when did you last use each item, is it working, do you need it, does anyone in your family need it, would it be a big loss if you don't have it anymore? Then put the unused items in a box or a bag and throw them away or give them to charity. If you think many people might want some of the items - organize a garage sale to earn some extra cash. Make a daily schedule with task for before packing, during and after moving. If you are taking days off from work, you will be even more pressured to finish everything on time. Ask your friends and relatives if they are able to help you.Be careful with the number of people helping out - moving days are known for ruining friendships. The more people you have, the more opinions and ways of doing things you have to cope with. The best time to do the major packing and moving is from Friday evening onwards. This way you have two full days and your children can help too. Pack and label properly - label boxes with " this way up", "open first", "fragile", "important", "stationery" and so on. Forgetting where something important is can be really frustrating, especially when you need it straight after moving. One of the hardest decision is what kind of transport to use. If you are moving house in the same town a moving truck is a good idea, but for across the country movng - you can benefit from using a moving container. Many people imagine DIY moving as putting everything in your car and driving. This is not a financially wise method, because you may need to do up to 20 return trips. Moreover, things like pianos, fridges and big furniture need extra care and safety. Driving everything yourself is very tiring and unnecessary. Rent a truck with a trained driver and meet it at your new place. You can take some of your essential belongings, as well as your pets and family in the car with you. Follow these tips for an easy and money-saving DIY moving.
